Matthew Goetz is a doctoral student at The George Washington University (GWU) studying early American history. His research focuses on the era of the American Revolution and Early Republic, with a particular emphasis on race, slavery, and the Barbary Wars. Before attending GWU, Matthew received his Masters degree in American history from Marquette University in Milwaukee. He has published articles for the George Washington Digital Encyclopedia and the White House Historical Association’s website.
